Nan Dirk de Graaf
ICS was founded in 1989, and accredited by the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 1993, 1998, and 2003. It is located at three universities: Universities of Groningen, Utrecht, and Nijmegen. The mission of the programme of the Department of Sociology in its most general form is to advance the study of societies by a well-reasoned choice of research questions, a confrontation of domain specific hypotheses with more general hypotheses, and research involving large-scale data-sets and state-of-the-art techniques. The department has a specific focus on research on inequalities as well as the social and cultural consequences of inequalities and mobility.
Nan Dirk de Graaf is professor in empirical sociology and head of the Department of Sociology, Radboud University the Netherlands, and the chairman of the Interuniversity Centre for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). He has had numerous grants of direct relevance to the project's main foci, including 'Social Mobility and the Multicultural Society: A Multi-ethnic group perspective. NWO: 457-03-020. Period: 2004-2008). He will be advising on the methodology of research and data collection and analysis.
